Cally's Star, the story
In April of 1999, Cally Jo Larson was murdered in her home after interupting a burglary. Cally was a 7th grader at Waseca Junior High School, a gymnast on my youth gymnastics team and one of my daughters teammates. The weeks and months that followed were extremely difficult for our entire community. It took ten months to find her killer- he is now serving a life sentance in a Texas prison.  Even now, ten years later, it is extremely difficult to think about how she died and the pain her family had to endure in their loss.

A few months after her death, I decided to rename one of my favorite rockets in her memory. Cally Jo had made a random comment to me before her death about how she couldn't wait for next school year, because they would be building and flying rockets in 8th grade Industrial Tech - she thought it would be fun. (She may have said it to be nice to me, since she knew I was 'into' flying rockets, but I took it to heart.) So every time I fly 'Cally's Star' it brings back memories of Cally Jo and how she lived and what she meant to all of us. Each flight is for her, her family, teammates and our community .
